How to Fold a Paper Airplane is a photobook created by Taiwanese photographer and bookmaker Tung Lin Tsai.

The book unfolds through a deliberately fractured structure. Conceived from the author’s recurring dream of a giant red paper airplane drifting above Taipei, the book translates this image of absurdity into a reading experience where crisis and daily life coexist.

The design of How to Fold a Paper Airplane mirrors the complexity of geopolitics and everyday life in Taiwan. The book offers three ways of reading: when flipped from one side, the book reveals mostly red pages; when read in reverse, photographs emerge. Moving page by page, the reader encounters interruptions; fields of red, fragments of text, and ordinary photographs all together which resolve into a fragmented story.

Neither documentary nor prophecy, How to Fold a Paper Airplane is a photobook that dwells in the space between. It stages an unresolved conversation between what is visible and what is withheld, embodying the tension of a place where daily life continues even as the possibility of conflict shadows the island.
